DECEMBER CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
The labyrinth walls are completed. There is a problem on the North side of the wing wall (bulge) but it can be resolved after the water returns. The gate is installed on the wrong side of the wall and needs to be corrected. The approach slab is being poured this week, and they are scheduled to pour the downstream pad next week. The riprap can be added in front of the approach slab. Then they can start the new boat ramp and compact the dirt on the sides of the new spillway once the dirt dries out and the downstream pad cures.

We are in the process of signing a change order that will allow the dirt to be put back on the south end of the dam, trash removed, additional riprap, and surface drains on the north side of the dam slope below the club house. This will cost and additional $149,361 and will be funded by $43,801 in contingency funds, $52,780 of additional OCRA funds and $52,780 from the ELLOA. The contractor has not signed the change order because it was not ok by us 5 days after its submittal. We cannot ok any change order prior to OCRA?s approval if it requires additional funds. We are working this out.

We are still negotiating with the contractor for additional time extension. But every day now adds to the late completion. There is no solid schedule but the latest is that substantial completion second week in January. Substantial completion will allow the water to start returning. Mother Nature is now in charge. I still believe the 6-7-8 project will get done maybe behind schedule but it will be a good job and the lake will be ready for boating spring of 2012. The only concern is the logs that cannot be removed now and will float to the surface.

If you have any question about the project please call me anytime @ 933-2556.

Thanks for staying off the dam, primary spillway and surrounding area during the construction. This is to prevent someone from getting hurt and delay of the project.

MESSAGE FROM THE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE

To ELLOA members,

We are writing to thank all members who helped with the clean-up effort of  our lake and to clarify what individuals can do to further assist with the clean-up while water is low.

To all who participated in the ELLOA sponsored July clean-up and to the members who cleaned the shoreline of their individual property, THANK YOU.  We know there has been significant removal of debris, trash, and the logs that would have become ?floaters? that if left in the lake.  Floaters could potentially harm the new spillway and cause safety issues for swimmers and boaters.  We filled six dumpsters with the debris through your efforts.

Next, we want to clarify what members can do to further clean the lake bed and shoreline before the water comes back.  You can:

  • go more than 15 feet from the shoreline to clean-up areas of the lake
  • spray weed killer on the weeds in the lake bed as long as you use a biodegradable spray that won?t harm the fish or lake.  Round Up and Spectracide Extended Control  are two acceptable products.  Make sure you follow manufacturer's spec's
  • burn debris on the lake bottom provided ashes are removed after the burn and  you follow the town requirements for burning.

Last we are planning more clean-up efforts for our lake as we still have debris and trash that needs to be removed.

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE EFFORT!!
